A couple of hours ago, my younger brother and I were bored at about 3 o'clock in the morning so we decided to go down to the living room, get something to eat, and watch a show or something good on t.v. While scrolling through the channels over my meal of bread and omelette, I stumbled on a movie with this weird kid making odd noises. This young boy caught our attention with his strange sounds. Captivated, we turned our attention to the television and started watching.
It turns out that the kid-Brad Cohen- had Tourette syndrome which is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by chronic tics and sometimes barking (yes i did my research). For those of you that are wondering Brad Cohen does exist and is very much alive and kicking. Anyways, throughout the movie, my brother and I were able to see how Brad overcame all sorts of adversity from fellow classmates, teachers and people in general. Since the age of six, Brad's life was never the same but he never gave up on his dream to teach and eventually, he went on to be an award winning teacher. The movie-which by the way is called front of the class- ended with him being presented the award for best first year teacher.
However, being the nerd that I am, I did a little research on Brad and I found out that he is currently a motivational speaker, has been a little league coach, an author, and winner of multiple awards. All this from a guy who cannot finish a lot of his words without making dog-like noises.
I tell you I was truly inspired, It got me thinking about my life and how many times I gave up after only a few attempts. Mr. Cohen here got turned down 24 yes 24 times! before he was given a job. If you have a passion for something and you believe you can do it, let no one stop you. I feel like sometimes we are our own worst enemies when we need not be. God gave each and everyone of us unique gifts so please do not hide it. I leave you with a line well a paraphrase from the movie- "you can do it not inspite of your disability but because of your disability. Anything is possible guys if you set your mind to it.

ReplyDeletei just pray God gives us the strength to deal with disappointments when they come our way n they surely will!
True dat..sometimes what we see as a disability, stops us from using our ability to fufil our destiny...This reminds me of the story of moses...We need to be more like these men and trust that God is bigger dan our physical handicap and that He is powerful enough to make our impossiblities a possibility.
ReplyDeletetruly inspirational! x
